We arrived in Oxford and went to the tourism office to get assistance in finding a hotel. The Tamesis Guest House had rooms available for £45 per night. As others have mentioned, the Isis is student housing for St. Edmund Hall during the school year, so is only available to the general public when school isn't in session...I believe July-September. The rooms were spotless, there was a nice bag of toiletries in the room, and the breakfast was good. Our rooms were in the front, but it was very quiet. The WC and showers were down the hall on this visit. When we returned later in the week, the main guesthouse was full, but they had rooms (en-suite, but without breakfast ) in another building a block away. The location is perfect, with restaurants, pubs, botanical garden, shopping and major sites nearby and we could walk everywhere in Oxford that we wished to go. The five-star rating is based on the value and location for what can be a pricey city to stay in!
